ECCQ and MCCGC urge Australians to remain calm and foster a sense of togetherness and mutual respect ahead of the protests across the nation scapegoating migrants for current socio-economic difficulties.
We are pleased that most Australians proudly support the multicultural spirit.
Migrants have historically made, and continue to make, meaningful contributions to the Australian economy. They fill labour shortages, help us foster much needed innovations, drive entrepreneurship, and bolster population growth with their working-age skills, perspectives, and remarkable resilience.
Permanent skilled migrants, in particular, make significant contributions to the public purse, offering more in taxes and other social contributions than they typically claim in benefits over their lifetime. Migration further remains crucial for maintaining a highly skilled workforce, which ensures our national competitiveness in turn.
Mr Elijah Buol OAM, Chair of ECCQ, said, “migrants and refugees significantly enrich Australia, bringing invaluable traditions, diverse languages, and fresh perspectives that shape a vibrant and inclusive multicultural society. They are a great asset to our nation’s strength and identity.”
As Ms Lisa Ward, CEO of ECCQ, is of the same views. She said, “Australia should be the last place on earth where protests of this nature take place. We honour First Nations peoples as the traditional custodians of this land and recognise that migration has also been central to shaping our nation’s prosperity and diversity. Together, these stories give every Australian reason to be proud.”
Together, we will continue to advocate for a stronger, more inclusive Australia, where every culture is respected and every contribution is valued.
