Your right to speak up
Whistleblower Policy Information
Why this matters?
ECCQ is committed to providing safe, respectful and high-quality care. As part of the Aged Care Act 2024, you have the right to speak up if something doesn’t feel right. This helps us continue to improve and protect everyone in our community.
We aim to maintain a transparent and accountable environment in which staff, volunteers, contractors, suppliers and other stakeholders can raise concerns about suspected misconduct, unlawful or unethical behaviour without fear of detriment. We uphold zero tolerance for reprisals, and we will investigate disclosures promptly and fairly.
Who can speak up?
You can raise a concern if you are:
- Receiving care or services from ECCQ
- A family member, carer, or supporter
- A current or former ECCQ staff member, volunteer, or contractor
What you can speak up about?
We encourage you to let us know if you see or experience:
- Unsafe or poor-quality care
- Behaviour that feels wrong, unfair, or disrespectful
- Serious concerns like fraud, abuse, or neglect
Most concerns can be raised directly with staff or through our feedback process. But if you’re not comfortable doing that, this policy gives you another safe way to speak up.
How to raise a concern?
You can contact us in a way that feels right for you.
- Call: (07) 3844 9166, and ask to speak with a Whistleblower Reporting Officer
- Email: governance@eccq.com.au
- Talk to: Any ECCQ staff member or a Whistleblower Reporting Officer
You can also report to:
- The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission
- A police officer or independent aged care advocate
Your privacy and protection
- You can stay anonymous if you prefer.
- Your identity will be kept confidential.
- You are protected by law from being treated unfairly for speaking up.
- We will support you throughout the process.
Not sure where to raise your concern?
This policy is for reporting serious misconduct like fraud, abuse, or unsafe practices. For general complaints or feedback about services, please use our Complaints and Feedback process—we take all feedback seriously and use it to improve.
If you’re unsure, talk to an ECCQ staff member who can guide you.
