20 June 2018: The Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland’s (ECCQ) hosted local community meetings Monday and Tuesday to present redevelopment plans for its residential care facility, Berlasco Court Caring Centre, located in Indooroopilly.

In early 2019, the current building will be demolished to make way for a state of the art, culturally sensitive and technologically advanced facility.

Since 1988, Berlasco Court has been offering high level and dementia care for residents from a wide range of cultural backgrounds. The excellent reputation of Berlasco Court is well known within the local and broader community and it is a much sought after destination for families seeking the best quality care.

Berlasco Court General Manager, Athena Ermides, and representatives from the building design team, Paynter Dixon Queensland, discussed plans for the new building including a contemporary building design and open interactive gardens with fruit trees and herbs as well as facilities that encourage broader community engagement.

The building will also feature a homely environment with internal and external spaces that encourage a sense of community and belonging. It will also feature intimate child friendly social spaces for family and friends to connect as well as spaces that can accommodate diverse programs and large scale functions.

Ms Ermides said that the plan to rebuild is the result of a successful Government application to expand Berlasco Court’s services to create the best possible home environment for those in their care.

“The rebuild will result in major improvements to the lives of our residents and families. Residents can look forward to the same quality of care delivered in a stunning and contemporary home setting.”

The new building will offer diversification of accommodation including larger single rooms with ensuites, interconnected rooms and apartment style living.

“It is anticipated that the rebuild will take approximately 18 months to complete and during this time our residents and staff will relocate to another local service where they will experience the same quality of care and unique culturally inclusive service offering.

“We are looking forward to welcoming our residents and staff to their magnificent new home in Indooroopilly.”
