ECCQ Christmas Celebration for Seniors

Multicultural Partners held a Christmas celebration for our longstanding Vietnamese Seniors group at the New Inala Hall to culminate a year of learning about ageing healthily in Queensland. The seniors were ready for some festive fun and to learn about what local services can offer them.

Diversicare’s update about the home care reforms was much appreciated because many of the group receive home care packages since learning from our information sessions about how they can be cared for in their own homes. The audience was also delighted to hear about Brisbane City Council cabs special service for seniors, and updates from other local services, including Aaron Bui from the Hon. Margie Nightingale MP’s office, Hub Community Legal Centre, and the Vietnamese Community in Australia, Qld Chapter Inc.

The seniors had the opportunity for free health checks with ECCQ’s Chronic Disease program, and for a chat and information in Vietnamese language from the Love Health team. They then enjoyed line dancing, a colourful fan dance, and ate their lunch to beautiful classical Vietnamese music performed by celebrated musician Vuong Hanh. The festivities ended with a large cake donated by Councillor Charles Strunk’s Forest Lake Ward (Brisbane City Council) and lots of smiles.
