The Partners in Culturally Appropriate Care is a program funded by the Australian government to support the aged care sector in relation to their multicultural clients and to engage with communities to enhance their understanding of the services available to them.
An important aspect of the program is to help aged care service providers and multicultural communities with translated information. Research shows that language barriers are real and can have an enormous impact on aged care and, more generally, on health outcomes.
Commonly used resources include communication cards, translated aged care information, dementia brochures, continence health resources and lots more!
If you are looking for specific information in a certain language for a loved one or for a client, but can’t find it on Google– there are good chances that our team will be able to find them, providing they exist! If they don’t exist and you think they are needed, we would love to have your feedback – this is something we will bring up with relevant stakeholders.
More recently, PICAC Queensland has developed a You Tube channel that have a number of aged care related language resources. These include community based language resources like the Safe to Say videos developed by local CALD community members, in partnership with Brisbane City Council and PICAC Queensland about the importance of providing feedback to government and non-government services without fear of persecution so organisations can improve their access and equity of services and programs to culturally and linguistically communities. In the coming months, we aim to upload more resources.
