CEO Message February 2025

This year has begun on a strong note. We were delighted to host the Queensland multicultural sector networking breakfast last Friday in the honour of the Hon. Fiona Simpson MP, Queensland’s Minister for Women, Women’s Economic Security, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, and Multiculturalism. It was encouraging to see representatives from both the ALP and LNP come together for this special occasion, in addition to just over 200 community and sector colleagues.

ECCQ aimed to create a meaningful event that not only welcomed Minister Simpson but also highlighted her commitment to engaging with Queensland’s multicultural communities. Her genuine dedication to listening and understanding diverse voices aligns with our vision of an inclusive and responsive government.

Following the breakfast, the Queensland Executive Multicultural Service Sector Network held its first meeting of the year, welcoming Minister Simpson, the Minister’s Policy Advisor, Clio Padayachee, and Ms. Julie McDougall, Executive Director of Multicultural Affairs Queensland. In addition to briefing the Minister on what the network accomplished last year, the meeting underscored key areas requiring further attention, including improving young people’s educational experiences and strengthening family support systems.

We look forward to working with the Queensland Government and Minister Simpson as she brings a multicultural perspective to policy and leadership. With her support and our collective efforts, the future of Queensland’s multicultural sector looks bright.

Finally, I’d like to invite you all to the upcoming annual Women’s Ethnic Network (WEN) International Women’s Day Breakfast. Tickets are selling fast, and we look forward to celebrating this special occasion with you.

As we move forward, I also look forward to welcoming back ECCQ’s CEO from her SILA sabbatical on 17 March 2025, alongside the ECCQ Board and team.
