The Ethnic Community Council Queensland (ECCQ) are thrilled to again host the Women’s Ethnic Network’s (WEN) 2025 International Women’s Day breakfast in Brisbane. The theme for International Women’s Day for 2025 is March Forward: It’s time to turn promises into progress. We know that when women thrive, the whole community thrives. 👩🏽‍🦱👩‍🦰👩🏾👱🏼‍♀️👩🏿‍🦳

The WEN dedicated to uniting women from diverse cultural backgrounds to identify their strengths and specific needs, address gaps in service delivery, and explore opportunities for collaboration and leadership across Queensland. From 2023 to 2026, the Women’s Empowerment Network (WEN) is focusing on advocating for multicultural women and educating and empowering our members, particularly in the area of Violence Against Women. 💪🏾💪🏽💪🏼

We are excited that Hon. Minister Fiona Simpson MP – Minister for Women and Women’s Economic Security, Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships and Minister for Multiculturalism will be joining us. Fiona is the Member for Maroochydore who has a track record of hard work and community service. Fiona grew up on the Sunshine Coast and went to local schools. She understands the pressures faced by local families and business owners and wants people to have the same opportunity to live, work and raise their families here while cherishing our region’s natural beauty. She has a reputation for hard work and diligent service to her electorate and the people of Queensland. She is actively at work in the community, listening to people about how we can make our area even better. She is patron of over 20 organisations and has helped secure funding for many volunteer groups who are enriching the lives of others through community service.

Our key note speaker – Anna-Liza Mopio-Jane – has had a remarkable sporting career that includes representing Papua New Guinea at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, competing in three Commonwealth Games, and showcasing her talents at five World Championships, she embodies the spirit of determination and perseverance. As a proud mother of two energetic boys, Anna-Liza knows the delicate balance of family life alongside a thriving professional journey. Her experiences as an elite athlete have shaped her advocacy for mental health and well-being, making her a relatable figure for audiences at any stage of life. Anna-Liza is also a passionate breathwork expert, guiding individuals through transformative experiences that promote wellness and personal growth. Anna-Liza empowers others to connect with their inner strength and navigate life’s challenges with clarity and confidence.

Achieving gender equity requires the collective efforts of everyone, not just women.
