Multicultural Partners recently delivered two group training sessions, Cultural Awareness and Communicating Across Cultures, to home care staff at Blue Care Community, based in Annerley.
The team at Blue Care Community support a diverse range of older people in inner Brisbane suburbs so it was great to review the Aged Care Diversity Framework, the strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards to identify the diversity groups in the area, think about the person-centred social needs that may include spiritual, dietary, social or language services, the importance of updating the care plan regularly and planning for their client’s wellbeing through culturally appropriate social support and group activity.
The group also reflected on their own cultural perspectives, values and beliefs and how it may impact others who do not share the same world view, and to learn about the resources available like free access to interpreters and translations to help their CALD clients make informed choices about the aged care they need.
