Training Session: Understanding the Australian Law

We are thrilled to share that our recent community training session with the Banyamulenge community in Logan was a huge success. Together, we explored important legal topics to empower and support each other. Here are some highlights:

  • Human Rights and Equality: Learning about human rights laws and the importance of fairness and equality.
  • Family Violence: Recognising the signs of family violence and knowing the support services available. Emphasised on the legal implications and the role of the community in preventing violence.
  • Child Safety: Understanding parental responsibilities and the role of Child Safety Services.
  • Citizenship: Knowing the rules about visas, citizenship, and the consequences of criminal activity. Importance of providing true information to the Department of Home Affairs.
  • Criminal Record: Understanding the impact of a criminal record on job prospects and travel.

We had meaningful discussions, shared stories, and learned together through presentation, videos, and songs. Participants had an opportunity to ask questions and share their views and experiences. A big thank you to Jesus Gate of Peace International Ministries, Refugee and Immigration Legal Service (RAILS), and everyone who participated and made this event so impactful!
