Event Recap: See It. Name It. Report It. Elder Abuse and SIRS in Practice

For Elder Abuse Awareness Month 2026, ECCQ Multicultural Partners organised See It. Name It. Report It. Elder Abuse and SIRS in Practice, a networking and information session focused on building awareness and strengthening responses to elder abuse.

The event brought together aged care providers, quality and risk professionals, and advocacy stakeholders to explore the prevalence and forms of elder abuse in Australia, barriers to disclosure, cultural considerations, and the importance of safeguarding the rights, wishes and preferences of older people.

Attendees also gained practical insights into the Serious Incident Response Scheme (SIRS), including reporting obligations and effective approaches to identifying, reporting, monitoring and responding to incidents of abuse within aged care services.

Through sessions like this, we are working together to strengthen safeguards and support safer, more rights-focused outcomes for older Australians.
