This month’s tip for community associations from the Community Sector Development Program is about succession planning.
Diversifying management committees or boards will result in increased skills, unique perspectives, connections and sustainability. This includes, gender diversity, cultural diversity and age diversity.
Diversity in skills will ensure an organisation’s various requirements can be met. Diversity of age and gender will ensure that members are better represented and that different voices are heard when making decisions. It also assists with long term planning, continuity and sustainability of an organisation or association.
By allowing new young committee members to join more experienced boards or management committees, we support mutual learning opportunities and continuity of values, processes and information over time.
