Message from our CEO Peter Last

In light of recent events of emerging COVID-19 cases in Queensland it is vital that we all continue to do our best to take extra care to protect ourselves and everyone around us.

This is true as it relates to safe practices such as social distancing and washing of hands. However, this also means that it is more important than ever to stand together and reject discriminatory and divisive dialogue wherever it emerges.

ECCQ is continuing to advocate for all CALD communities to ensure they have a ‘voice’ in important policy discussions and government forums. ECCQ has a strong belief in promoting positive community values which strengthen social cohesion.

My recent participation and representations for our CALD communities have included:

  • Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Council
  • Connecting International Students Committee
  • QLD Mental Health Week
  • COVID 19 CALD Working Group
  • Relationships Australia Strategy
  • COVID 19 Testing Framework for hard to reach groups
  • Human Rights Commission Vilification Law Reform Working Group
  • National Access and Equity Strategy
  • QLD Human and Social Recovery Committee
  • FECCA CEO meetings

As always, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me if you would like to raise an issue or discuss obstacles or pathways towards a more cohesive and just Queensland.

Best wishes,
Peter Last
