ECCQ looking for peer support volunteers

The team of the BBVs and STIs Program is looking for volunteers who have, or have had experiences with hepatitis B or hepatitis C. We are looking for people with a shared experience, and who are willing to provide support to other affected members of their community. The volunteer will be provided training and be supported by the Program Manager or the Community Management and Treatment Coordinator for Viral Hepatitis.

Requirements for the role include:

  • Sound English skills and fluency in one or more community languages.
  • Able to provide social support by phone, email, social media, or face to face.
  • Provide reassurance and basic understanding of their condition to reduce stigma, discrimination and fear about their diagnosis.
  • Willingness to share some of your experience on a one to one basis (only that which you feel comfortable sharing).
  • A current police check will be required. The program will cover the cost of the police check.

For further information, please contact Program Manager Zhihong Gu on 3844 9166, or Marrianne Black on 0466042799, or email health@eccq.com.au.
